METRAS-PCL
Desktop version of the mesoscale model METRAS
Based on the mesoscale model METRAS, a user friendly version of the mesoscale transport and fluid model METRAS has been developed for desktop computers running Linux. METRAS-PCL calculates wind, temperature and humidity with either fixed boundary values or by calculating and including the diurnal changes of surface temperature and humidity. It can be applied over complex terrain using nonuniform grid spacing in all three dimensions.
The model may be used as a meteorological pre-processor for pollution transport models, using the results to drive e.g. Lagrangian particle models, kinetic simulation particle models and Eulerian dispersion models.
As of version 5.0 several additional land use categories are available in order to facilitate urban climate applications. We now supply the pre-processor GRITOP-L to create a model domain along with data for Germany.
For the development of METRAS-PCL the mesoscale model METRAS has been adapted to Linux and to end user needs. The input and model control have been simplified.
To check the model quality, runs on high performance computers as well as desktop computers have been performed. These results have been compared and METRAS-PCL has been evaluated according to VDI guideline 3783 part 7. A user manual explains the model set-up and the interpretation of results (currently only available in German).
